OVERVIEW

Abstract Beginnings explores the evolution of playgrounds and their impact on children’s explorational learning abilities. This topic stems from Isamu Noguchi’s architect career and his efforts to design a new style of structures for children to play with abstract intuitions. His ideology and design concepts are to thank for the current state of playgrounds and the community of like-minded architects and designers. Abstract Beginnings focuses on Noguchi’s career, the history of playgrounds, the evolution and safety, and his dream of Play Mountain.

“The philosophy behind these play forms is that the imaginations of young children are stimulated by interesting shapes and colours’ and that they like to endow objects with their own fantasies rather than play on ready-made forms,”
